Ecology & Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Services
What Is BNG?
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is now a legal requirement for most developments in England under the Environment Act 2021.
As of 2024, both major and small developments must deliver a minimum 10% increase in biodiversity compared with the site’s pre-development condition.
To comply, developers must:
Establish the baseline biodiversity value of the site
Use the government’s Statutory Biodiversity Metric to calculate losses and required gains
Provide a Biodiversity Gain Plan to the Local Planning Authority
Commit to 30 years of habitat creation, enhancement and management
BNG aims to ensure developments leave nature in a measurably better state.
